Presentation of the first electric bus assembled in Ecuador, on March 14, 2024.
The bus manufacturing company Miral Mobility launched the first electric bus manufactured in Ecuador to the Ecuadorian market on March 14, in the city of Ambato, where the Miral plant is located.
The investment in the production project of this type of bus was close to USD 4 million, explained José Miranda Albán, general manager of Miral Mobility.
The design and production of the first electric bus manufactured in Ecuador took two years of work. The launch of Miral took place in the Tababela sector, in Quito.
Miral’s first electric bus, e-Quantum+ model, was acquired by the company Buzztrans, known commercially as Lobito, to provide transportation to tourists in the Galapagos Islands, moving them from Baltra Airport to the points where they must take the boats to go. to Santa Cruz or go on cruises.
“We are committed to a change in our transportation. Galapagos deserves it, it is a place where environmentally we have to take positive steps,” said Rafael Gallardo, president of Bus Trans.
Gallardo added that this will be the first electric bus in public transportation in the Galapagos Islands, which will serve tourists and the inhabitants of the Archipelago.
Gallardo expects the bus to be providing service in two months but is still waiting for permission from the GAD of Galapagos.
The goal is 20 buses in 2024
Miral’s goal is to manufacture 20 electric buses in 2024. Among the possible clients are, for now, public universities.
How does the bus operate? The electric public transport car has a power of 380 kilowatts, with a maximum speed of 95 kilometers per hour.
Its autonomy is 300 kilometers, which in a combustion-powered urban transport bus is equivalent to a day of work. Miral offers the installation of electric stations to its clients.
The bus also has an elevator that allows passengers with disabilities to enter and exit the bus safely and comfortably.
The event featured the participation of the Ecuadorian pilot Sebastián Guayasamín.
