The first virtual book fair is organized in Guayaquil
The VI edition of the International Book Fair in Guayaquil called ” Guayaquil is my Destination to read and grow”, it will be totally virtual and in 3D. This was announced by Gloria Gallardo, president of the Guayaquil EP Tourism, Civic Promotion and International Relations Company .
The event announced in July for the foundation parties of the city was planned for Thursday, September 24 and will last until Sunday, September 27 from 09:00 to 21:00 through the platform www.libroguayaquil.com as a preventive measure for prevent covid infections 19.
“We are proud to present it for the first time in 3D, this fair that started 6 years ago, we could not leave this gap because the fair is undoubtedly part of a joint effort ,” said Gallardo.
Access to the virtual event is free , but each visitor must create an avatar to “visit” and “feel” that they are touring the traditional fair.
There will be stands, conference rooms , bookstore stands, works on display as well as direct contact with vendors and other visitors .
The website will have the possibility of enabling chats, calls or video calls between exhibitors, visitors and representatives of shops or stands to facilitate information on products or services .
The Book Fair works with a Literary Content Committee, chaired by Cecilia Ansaldo Briones, member of the Ecuadorian Academy of Language.
Elements of the fair
The program has colloquia and presentations carried out during the day of each day of the fair by 26 writers, 20 nationals and 6 foreigners : Rosa Montero (Spain), Eduardo Sacheri, Pedro Mairal and Mariana Enríquez (Argentina) and Alejandra Costamagna and Claudia Piñeiro (Chile), who will integrate different activities such as literary tables, talks, book launches, book club sessions and more.
Minors will have their respective party that provides interactive activities, storytelling, science fiction booth, games, among other entertainment focused on them.
In relation to the commercial area, there will be 30 virtual spaces that will offer the promotions of the books of the writers who will participate in this edition of the fair and in previous editions .
In addition, a short story contest called “Miguel Donoso Pareja” for which up to now there are 30 unpublished works registered.
The winner will receive $ 10,000 and his story will be published under the auspices of the editorial program of the Municipality of Guayaquil.
As a direct book purchase , the fair set up the Expoplazaonline.ec platform to buy the books of its favorite author via the internet.
“We are no longer going to be at the Convention Center but we are virtually using technology , which will allow everyone without exception, locals and foreigners of different ages to connect and participate as if they were present,” said Gallardo.
The fifth edition given in 2019 increased the literary offer, as they went from 50 stands to 75 and the organizers joined in more than 30 cultural sectors.
