EcuadorNews:

One of the first resolutions of President Lenin Moreno has been to give independence to aquaculture and fishing with the creation of a new ministry. The area players are optimistic with this decree. They expect more direct decisions and a ministry that is made up of people who know their needs.

In 2007 the sector was represented by an undersecretary and since 2011 by a Vice Ministry, being always as a dependency of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Aquaculture, and Fisheries. On March 24, Moreno signed a decree ordering the creation of the Ministry of Aquaculture and Fisheries as “a body governed by public law, with a legal identity, an administrative and financial system.”
