The Government of Guillermo Lasso protests the visit of Rafael Correa to Honduras
Former President Rafael Correa is in Honduras. The Government of that Central American country invited the leader of the Citizen Revolution movement within the framework of a management to exchange knowledge and experience in different sectors within the country on economic and Latin American integration issues, reads an official statement from the Press Secretariat of the Government of President Xiomara Castro.

This provoked the reaction of the government of President Guillermo Lasso. The Foreign Ministry of Ecuador confirmed to EXPRESO the veracity of a letter circulating on social networks in which the State portfolio expresses to the Honduran Embassy in Quito its “strong protest” at the invitation of the former president who is sentenced to 8 years in prison for the crime of bribery in the Bribery case 2012-2016.
In the same note, the Foreign Ministry considers that the prevention and fight against corruption constitutes “an imperative and responsibility of all States” and hopes that the two Governments prioritize cooperation against this scourge. The note from the Foreign Ministry has already provoked the reaction of the former president himself and his co-ideas on social networks, which they described as an interference by the Government of Ecuador in the affairs of another country. “If this letter is true, it shows ignorance about diplomacy and foreign relations, bad and disrespectful to the sovereign decision of a free and democratic people, like Honduras,” commented the legislator and sister of the former president, Pierina Correa.
The former president held a meeting with President Castro and with officials from his government, including Foreign Minister Enrique Reina; Natalie Roque, Minister of Human Rights, among others.
