The habeas corpus petition filed by Carlos Pareja Cordero was accepted in Peru, according to Jorge Zavala
The lawyer said that the constitutional action was filed last December 26. The hearing was held on January 2, and its resolution was notified today afternoon. The ruling issued by Zavala, states “that the claim filed is substantiated.” In addition, it is resolved that the police forces of the Immigration Division of the National Police of Peru or any other authority “must” refrain from performing any act of disturbance or harassment in relation to the free transit (departure from the country) against the freedom of his clients.”
According to Zavala Egas, the Pareja family has the right to leave the Peruvian territory “if they want to do it.” Although he said he does not know if they will do it in the next few hours because he had not yet talked to them. The Directorate of Immigration and Nationality of Peru would have 24 hours to appeal the decision at the request of the Ecuadorian government. But according to Zavala, this would affect his defendants.
