The hiring of maids has dropped since 2013

The costs involved in hiring a maid impact the sector. An analysis made by the cleaning and domestic staff placement ProHogar company found that hiring a full-time maid costs $ 513.54.

This amount includes the monthly base salary plus annual bonuses, vacation, the employer´s contribution to the Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security (IESS), among other obligations.

ProHogar is dedicated since last year to staff placement. At the beginning it placed between three and 10 people a month. But in the last quarter of 2015 the demand for domestic workers fell and the trend continues so far this year. Carla Vasco, company executive, says that recruiting such workers is not cheap.

To save costs, employers now prefer part-workers.
