The nightmare for the young women from Cleveland finally ended
Michelle Knight, Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus where found last Monday in a house in Cleveland (Ohio), after being kidnapped for four years, they would have been pregnant and aborted repeatedly due to rape and violence they received from the kidnappers, police sources reported today to local media.
Even though they did not give an exact figure, some media refers to five pregnancies.
So far, police officers are handling the interrogation of three brothers for their relation to the disappearances that occurred between 11 and 9 years ago, besides the officers confirmed that a girl of 6 years old, also lived in the House who is the daughter of Berry, although it has not been established if it is among these pregnancies.
Ariel Castro, aged 52, is the prime suspect, and owner of the House, he has been arrested along with his brothers, Pedro Castro, 54, and Oneil, 50, although there have been no charges filed against the suspects who allegedly are of Puerto Rican origin.
Frank Jackson, Mayor of Cleveland, said today during a press conference, that the authorities have “many questions unanswered”, as the reasons why these young people were abducted, and above all why residents did not detect that there were three kidnaped people in that house for so long.
“The nightmare is over,” said Stephen Anthony, director of the FBI in Cleveland. “These three young ladies have provided us the maximum definition of survival and perseverance. Now they can begin to heal”.
