This Friday, the Archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro reported that lightning struck the Cristo Redentor, damaging the third finger of the right hand the monument.

A photograph released by the agency Efe, shows the exact moment when the lightning strikes the Corcovado Christ on Thursday night when a storm occurred in the so-called “Cidade Maravilhosa.”

According to the announcement by the archdiocese, also affected an information board, but in both cases the damage was “superficial”.
