The right-wing wins in Quito, Guayaquil and Cuenca

Posted On 24 Feb 2014

Alianza PAIS (AP) movement, led by President Rafael Correa and in power since 2007, admitted its first defeat at the polls after 9 election victories.

In the three largest cities of Ecuador: Quito, Guayaquil and Cuenca, the municipalities were lost at the hands right-wing promoters Mauricio Rodas (Quito), Jaime Nebot (Guayaquil) and Marcelo Cabrera (Cuenca).

Rafael Correa acknowledged last night that the loss of the Municipality of Quito is a major setback, as the capital “has much to do with stability.”
