In the province of Sucumbíos, a commemorative event was held for the 45-year operation of the Trans-Ecuadorian Oil Pipeline System (SOTE for its Spanish acronym).
During this period, the SOTE has transported more than 5,000 million barrels of oil from Lago Agrio, crossing six pumping stations to the Balao terminal on the Pacific coast. The system feeds crude to the refineries of the country and allows its international commercialization during the whole year.
During the event, General manager of Petroecuador EP Byron Ojeda said that “this system is the most important in our country and is the main artery of the national economy.”
The SOTE features a route of 497 kilometers, crossing the Amazonian provinces, the Highlands and the Ecuadorian Coast. Its route is materialized with projects of social compensation such as the promotion of tourism. (I)
