The uncertain future of the Citizen’s Link
Posted On 08 May 2017

The Citizen’s Link (name of the Ecuadorian Weekly Address) has been broadcast since 2007 and has informed the activities of President Rafael Correa, but it is still unknown whether it will be maintained or modified after the new presidential inauguration.
Last Saturday, Vice President Jorge Glas, who was in charge of Citizen´s Link No. 521, broadcast from Guayaquil, said that neither he, who will continue in office for another four years, knows what will happen.
“President-elect Lenin Moreno Garcés will decide on the citizen´s links. I have no information on that, I do not know, really,” said Glas, recalling that he had to deliver 37 weekly addresses in the current period.
Political analysts and communication experts believe that these spaces have served not only as accountability of the activities of the outgoing government but also as a political platform.
