The Waorani population will be vaccinated against Covid-19
The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) has launched the vaccination process against COVID-19 of the Waorani population that lives in the Tagaeri-Taromenane Intangible Zone (ZITT), and who are in a particular situation vulnerability to COVID-19.
According to information from the health portfolio, dozens of people from that population will be inoculated, who have already been socialized in the territory about the importance of receiving the doses and the acceptance of each one of them was received.
The record of the Waorani population was obtained after a survey of information among the personnel of the Tiwino-Waorani Health Center, belonging to the MSP, the Secretariat of Human Rights, the RIOS Foundation and the Ecuadorian Populorum Progressio Fund.
In the first stage, from the beginning of June, the vaccination of the personnel in charge of the Monitoring Station of the Tagaeri – Taromenane Intangible Zone began. They will coordinate the entry and logistics of health personnel to the protected areas.
The vaccination process for the Waorani population, whose ages range between 18 and 97 years, will take place in early July, once the population’s entry and transportation protocol is in place within the ZITT.
