There are rules and schedules for the use of the Guayaquil-Santay footbridge and access to the island
The Environment Ministry yesterday modified the entrance and departure schedules of the pedestrian bridge that links Guayaquil with Santay Island, which opened on Tuesday April 2.
” The opening hours of the bridge will be 6:00 to 21:00, while access to the island Santay will be from 6:00 to 17:00 hours ( thereturn to Guayaquil from the Island will be until 18:00 maximum,” said the Secretariat of State in a statement .
They also established that it will only be allowed the daily entrance of 1,000 people for” nature conservation and wise use of environmental goods and services offered by the island.” Visitors would only be allowed to cycle, hike and observe wildlife.
Between the prohibitions are : consumption of alcoholic beverages; pets, weapons and aerosols access; conducting camps and campfires ; nocturnal visits ; no littering, cutting plants hunting. All this will be controlled by private guards and rangers.
Moreover, machines that collect plastic containers, glass and aluminum were placed in the footbridge.
