There is a deficit of drugs in 84 IESS hospitals

pr01u180514photo01Since this year, 84 hospital units of the Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security (IESS) face deficits in medicine.

Iván Espinel, provincial Director of IESS in Guayas, recognizes that there is a deficit of 10% in the stock of antiretroviral and cancer drugs. He ensures, however, that there is an ongoing process of acquiring these products and that in two weeks theTeodoro Maldonado Carbo hospital will be fully stocked.

IESS beneficiaries who attend this hospital are the most affected, including patients with HIV and cancer.

The IESS national health network has 96 units and beneficiaries bordering 8 million people.

On 26 May, the entity began a recruitment process for the purchase of 266 items of drugs for its medical units, as allocation for the second half of 2014. The reference budget for this acquisition is $ 47’615 $ 612.66 dollars .
