Thousands of UK Workers on a Strike over Pension Reform
Thousands of people walked out on strike today in protest against the UK government’s plans for pension reform. Teachers and other public and commercial sector employees gathered in the rally. Some held placards with the words “final salary pension we deserve better” and “cut tax evasion avoidance”.
The British Conservative Party yesterday worked on to further cut of government spending ever recorded in Britain since the Second World War.
With the reform, nearly half a million public sector workers will lose their jobs; the British welfare state will be reduced by more than 19,000 million pounds per year (21,600 million euros); tuition fees will multiply; the British army will lose human and materials resources; to get a social housing will be much more expensive; men and women will have to work until they are 66 before collecting a public pension.
