Three fishing associations from Guayas received more than 4,600 hectares of mangrove
The Ministry of the Environment, Water and Ecological Transition delivered more than 4,600 hectares of mangrove ecosystem to three fishing associations in Guayas.
This delivery was given through Sustainable Use and Custody Agreements of the Mangrove Ecosystem, as a conservation scheme.
This agreement “promotes economic sustainability actions for the benefit of coastal communities and to guarantee the conservation of natural resources,” indicated the State portfolio.
This delivery took place in an event held in the auditorium of the Espíritu Santo University of Specialties of Guayaquil, with the presence of 150 people, including representatives of different public institutions, Non-Governmental Organizations and members of the artisanal fishing sector.
With this delivery, Guayas has 18 agreements for Sustainable Use and Custody of the Mangrove Ecosystem, which the Ministry of the Environment grants under the voluntary request of the communities.
70% of the mangroves are located on the coast of Ecuador.
