Ollanta Humala, president of Peru, confirmed yesterday that during last Sunday night, three military leaders of the armed group Sendero Luminoso were killed in the Valley of the Apurimac, Ene and Mantaro, during a heavy exchange of fire with security forces.

“Intelligence sources who participated in this action we assert that the dead terrorist criminals would be the number one and number two in the military structure of the Shining Path: Alejandro Borda Casafranca, known as Comrade Alipio, and Marco Antonio Quispe Palomino, who would be Comrade Gabriel,” said Humala to the station Radio Programas del Peru (RPP).
