Tilapia export at a bad time
Posted On 31 Jul 2015
Ecuadorian tilapia is increasingly receiving less revenues from its main market, the United States.
Between January and April this year, foreign sales were just 2 million pounds, generating $ 6.3 million, that is $ 22 million less than the peak achieved in 2007.
Since 2013, Ecuador stopped selling 4 million pounds of tilapia, that is, three times less. One reason is the increasing competition in the main destination of the national fish.
Despite falling prices, Ecuador’s shrimp sales continues to increase.
