Today begins the World Breast-feeding Week
Yesterday, the ten mothers who gave birth on Monday at the hospital of the IESS Teodoro Maldonado Carbo, attended a talk about how to breast-feed correctly, within the framework of the world of breast-feeding week which is commemorated from today until August 7.
“This food is irreplaceable and recommended exclusively until six months of age, as it provides all the nutrients that the baby needs for his proper development and growth,” said pediatrician Guisela Soriano.
Mothers who work also have an option to give this food to their children. After two weeks of breast-feeding, mothers can extract milk from their breasts an hour and a half after breast-feeding, then store the milk in the freezer, in a sterile glass container, and the liquid will last 90 days.
Before giving it to the newborn the saved liquid should be transferred to the refrigerator for 24 hours; and then out to the environment an hour before giving it to the baby, said the specialist.
“Besides nourishing, it creates an emotional bond between the mother and the baby.”You create an indestructible connection that lasts a lifetime,”said the doctor, who added that the milk contains immunoglobulins and amino acids, both elements protect the babies from respiratory and gastrointestinal infections and allergies.
