Tomorrow starts the crab closure in Ecuador
It is the second closure of the year to capture, market and consume crabs, which will run untill September 15.
The first closure was in February, for the pairing of crustaceans, but this is one is due to the molting season, when the crab produces a chemical that can make sick who ever eats it.
The demand of the crustacean increased since last weekend in the crab markets and restaurants that were full of customers, since the crab is part of the identity of Guayaquil, and one of the favorite meals of a great number of inhabitants.
In the Caraguay market the pack of 12 crabs was commercialized in 9 dollars and grilled (4 packs) for $35.
“During the closure, the person who captures, transports or markets, from tomorrow, will be punished with a fine of two to ten unified basic salaries (from $636 to $3 180) and imprisonment from 15 to 60 days”, thus provided by the article 71 of the Act of fishery and fisheries development.
