Twitter Faces a Lawsuit in Brazil
Posted On 07 Feb 2012
The Defensory of the State of Brazil began a civil action against Twitter and its users who tell drivers where are the traffic controls of the police.
The lawsuit hopes to block these alert messages and calls on the social network to “suspend the accounts that notify the location of radars immediately and block the accounts that provide information about date, time and location of police checks.”
“The conduct of Twitter Inc. and others involved directly attacks the lives and safety of the people,” says the Defensory of the State.
The complaint mentions the annual rate of deaths caused by traffic accidents (55,000) and the radars not only identify traffic violations, but they can also detect weapons, drug smugglers, car thefts and kidnappings.
