The streets of Guayaquil again became the scene of anti-government marches. Members of labor unions gathered yesterday at the Centenario Park, after 17:00, to march down the 9 de Octubre avenue.

In addition to leaders of local organizations of doctors, teachers, college students, senior citizens, feminists and others, the prefect of Zamora Chinchipe, Salvador Quishpe, participated. The indigenous leader emphasized the general complaint of the latest protests: the file of amendments to the Constitution. He warned that the protests will not stop. “We will continue. The mobilization of October 12 is coming, the as well as that of November and especially when the Assembly includes in the agenda the subject of reforms to the Constitution, the people will rise up into a single force.”

Doctors claimed by Decree 703 and criminal penalties for malpractice, that according to the president of the Ecuadorian Medical Federation, Armando Salcedo, in some cases are unfair.

Union leaders led the walk shouting slogans against the government. Upon reaching the San Francisco square, they were received by a group of citizens of the Ecuador United in Resistance collective protesting in place. The walk was accompanied by members of the Municipal Transit Authority and the National Police. Meanwhile, in the Malecon and Tomas Martinez streets, supporters of businessman Alvaro Noboa concentrated to march to the Guayas Governor´s office. They did not achieve their purpose. A police barrier prevented them from getting to the point, but they continued their march down the 9 de Octubre avenue. No excesses or clashes between protesters were recorded.
