UN Demands Gaddafi to Cease his Attacks
Emissaries of the United Nations gathered yesterday with the Libyan Prime Minister in Tripoli to request Muammar al Gaddafi to cease-fire against the rebel bastion in Misrata. Over a thousand people have died in six weeks, after been assailed by the troops of Gaddafi.
The secretary of the British State for International Development, Andrew Mitchell, stated that over 5,000 port workers are blocked from the docks. There have been explosions at 300 meters of their location; the British government stated their desire for a mass evacuation for their countrymen. In Misrata, Jeremy Haslam, chief of the International Immigration Organization (OIM) in the country informed that over 400,000 Libyans are exiling themselves from the city.
Misrata is the third largest city in the border with Tunisia; this is the bastion of the rebel forces in the west. The city has been constantly under siege by the forces of Gaddafi. Now after more than six weeks more that 1,000 people in Misrata have perished, according to medical sources such as Jaled Abu Falgha.
The United Nations expressed their desire to send a humanitarian crew to protect the civilians and maintain the air exclusion zone. Meanwhile, the Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, informed that Iran expressed his desire to support the Venezuelan commission of international mediation in Libya. Chavez expressed his support towards Gaddafi, whom he considers his friend.
