UNASUR Council Will Change Control of Secretariat

Today, the Colombian Maria Emma Mejia will formally concede her charge in the General Secretariat of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR for its Spanish acronym) to Venezuelan Ali Rodriguez Araques.
The handover ceremony will take place at the San Carlos Palace, the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry of Colombia.
The event will be attended by the foreign ministers of UNASUR, the president of Paraguay, Fernando Lugo, in his charge as President Pro Tempore of UNASUR, and the host governor, Juan Manuel Santos.
The Colombian Foreign Ministry confirmed that the meeting will be also attended by foreign ministers of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Guyana, Suriname, and Venezuela.
The agenda of the Foreign Ministers Council meeting includes topics such as the institutional framework of UNASUR, the revision of rules of operation, the South American Institute of UNASUR Government’s budget (ISAGS for its Spanish acronym) and the guidelines for external relations. (MZ)
