Unionists, divided by amendments
Unions aligned with the regime were divided over the results obtained with the constitutional amendments in labor matters yesterday after a meeting with President Rafael Correa.
The meeting was behind closed doors at the Ministry of Sport, where Correa led a sectorial cabinet of production.
After he met with some leaders of the Labor Parliament and the Central Workers Union (CUT).
The holder of the first organization, Fernando Ibarra, regrets the lack of agreement on collective agreements for the public sector.
He warned to file a lawsuit of unconstitutionality if international conventions are disrespected.
He noted as ‘positive’ the fact that the president had expressed his commitment so employees who are now governed by the Labour Code, and therefore have a collective contract, keep it up.
Those who are covered by the Public Service Act could only access the rights to union and strike.
