United states rejects the extradition of the Isaias brothers
The Attorney General, Galo Chiriboga, rejected the fact that the United States refused to extradite the brothers William and Roberto Isaias, who were sentenced in Ecuador by the collapse of the Filanbanco Bank.
“Ecuador has been reciprocal with United States when the country have requested the extradition of nationals. Ecuador has never challenged the legitimacy of the decisions of the American judges. If Ecuador does not have that right, according to the Prosecutor’s Office, the State Department does not have it either”, said Chiriboga.
The Prosecutor made this comments after the knowing the Providence issued on June 28, by Maria Merchan, President of the National Court of Justice (e), which reported the decision of the Department of State that denies the request for extradition.
Chiriboga questioned this decision because, in his view, modifies the judgment of Ecuadorian judges. “The United States cannot analyze what the Ecuadorian judges have decided”, he pointed out.
On June 19, the State Department reported through a statement that the United States is not able to proceed with this order “at this time”.
“Ecuador has not provided evidence that the Isaias brothers deliberately participated in the planning of the embezzlement, nor the diversion of funds from the Central Bank in the amount specified”, says the statement.
