Universidad Catolica and Emelec share the top of the scoreboard

Universidad Catolica won 3-0 against Manta in Quito, and Emelec won 1-0 against Independiente in its stadium, so now both teams share the first place, but “the saints” with a better goal difference (+10) than the electrics (+8).

The other contenders to the first position are: Liga de Quito (4 points), which tied 2-2  to local team,Barcelona; and Deportivo Quito (7 points), who ended the game in a goalless draw against El Nacional. Both teams were lagged behind in the position board.

The way  this second phase of the Ecuadorian Soccer Championship is developing, Emelec could end up first and automatically become champion because they won the first stage. Universidad Catolica , which went up from the B series, could truncate the blue dream by  winning this stage and force two final matches. There is still a long way to go but that is the tendency, so far.
