US Open: Pennetta Surprises Sharapova

Pennetta defeated Sharapova

In the fifth round of the U.S Open, the Italian tennis player Flavia Pennetta surprised the Russian Maria Sharapova, after defeating her in a set of two and half hours with a score 6-3, 3-6 and 6-4.

Since the beginning of the first set, Pennetta showed initiative while Sharapova was overwhelmed by her rival game, and made 12 double faults during the match. Afterwards Sharapova managed to even the match to four games, but she made two more double faults that cost her the game. (AV)
