USB 3.0 Coming To Tablets And Smartphones

Posted On 09 Jan 2012

Most of the computers and smartphones around you came with a built in USB 2.0 port, but as time has gone by, technology offers faster connections, that is why USB 3.0-based microUSB connectors will be incorporated in the new tablets and smartphones.

USB 3.0 allows for data transfer rates of around 625 MB/s, which is 10 times faster than USB 2.0, whose maximum data transfer speed is 60 MB/s. The 3.0 technology will also speed up data transfer in mobile devices but it will not be as fast as data transfer between desktop computers.

“What takes 15 minutes will roughly take 1 minute and 10 seconds,” said Rahman Ismail, CTO of the USB Implementers Forum at the CES trade show in Las Vegas.

USB Implementers Forum also said it aims to reduce the size of USB 3.0 ports on laptops, as it’s becoming a limiting factor in laptop thinness. Tablets and smartphones supportong USB 3.0 will be available by the end of 2012
