Vázquez leads the polls with 42% of voting intentions
Tabaré Vázquez-Raul Sendic, the Uruguayan presidential ruling duo (Frente Amplio, left), leads the opinion polls with more than 42% of voting intentions, according to recent polls of the four major consultancies (Cifra, Equipos, Factum and Radar).
However, these forecasts are not enough for him to win the first-round victory for which he needs an absolute majority and he is doubtful hecan retain a parliamentary majority with which he ruled in the Vazquez’s first term (2005-2010) and the current José Mujica.
In addition, the candidate of the National Party (PN, center-right), Luis Lacalle Pou, records a meteoric rise, which already adds a voting intention at around 33% and has become the election in highly competitive and unpredictable, according to analysts.
