Venezuelan Church has a shortage of communion wine
The Venezuelan Episcopal Conference (CVE) issued a statement denouncing the scarcity of communion wine -used to celebrate the Eucharist- and explains the “extreme need” to get the wine and the difficulty of importing it due to lack of foreign currency.
The statement, signed by three bishops, says Bodegas Pomar (the official manufacturer of Ecclesia Wine which is used at Mass), “cannot guarantee the steady production and distribution due to the lack of some inputs, used to bottle the product”.
According to statements by Bishop Robert Lucker, president of the commission of social media of the CEV, the wine reserves they own, will be expended in less than “two months”. CEV’s suggestion is to use a wine that is “pure and natural as possible (…) provisionally Chilean and Argentine wines, of good quality”.
