Vice President Maria Alenadra Vicuña said tonight, surrounded by the presidential cabinet, in a press conference convened as a matter of urgency, from the Carondelet Palace, that President Lenin Moreno remains President of the Alianza PAIS Party.
Vicuña has spoken less than an hour after the National Secretary of Alianza PAIS Gabriela Rivadeneira announced that the National Board of the party has dismissed Lenin Moreno from the national presidency of PAIS. In his place, Ricardo Patiño took office as the new president. “At some point, certain colleagues have lost focus. We repudiate such arbitrariness,” said Vicuña.
Vicuña recalled that the election of a new president can only be carried out by the National Assembly of Alianza País, so the election of Patiño is a “sign of arbitrariness” that neither Moreno nor they accept. (I)
