Everaldo Manuel Crespo, 35, fell ill in the city of Quevedo and died 10 days ago, today health authorities in the province of Los Rios confirmed that his death was caused by the H1N1 influenza.
Crespo, a native of the parish’s El Guayacan in Quevedo, became the first official victim of the deadly virus that perishes in Los Rios, as reported yesterday the provincial health director, Carmen Garcia Calero. The patient was treated at a medical clinic in Quevedo Social Security, and then he was transferred to the hospital’s Social Security Institute (IESS) in Babahoyo.
Due to the gravity of his illness he was moved to Guayaquil and subsequently admitted to the hospital Teodoro Maldonado Carbo, where he died on 19 July at 10h00. In the metropolis he received the same diagnosis, but was added viral pneumonia “to investigate“, yet the patient died.
The tests that were carried out confirmed that it was indeed H1N1 influenza.
For a person to become infected with the H1N1 influenza there has to be a virus circulating in the environment and the subject must have low defences.
