Thousands of migrants, some Ecuadorians, advance in the largest caravan that crosses Mexico from the border with Guatemala so far in 2023.

Thousands of Latin American migrants, some Ecuadorians, blocked two lanes at the entrance to the Comprehensive Border Transit Assistance Center in Mexico on the afternoon of November 6.
The measure was to pressure the immigration authorities to grant them papers or permits to circulate through the country, and thus reach the border with the United States.
The migrants gathered at a Mexican customs office, located in the southern state of Chiapas, after traveling about 10 kilometers from the municipality of Huixtla, where they were awaited by anti-riot teams from the National Guard.
As part of this peaceful caravan, foreigners sat and others lay down on two lanes until traffic was completely closed.
From there they launched slogans like ” we want papers, we want papers, the united people will never be defeated!”
Jordi Alexander Rodríguez, a migrant from Ecuador, emphasized that they have been walking for several days and they have not been given any response to grant them documents.
The 27-year-old Ecuadorian said they decided to block the office “because they don’t serve them and no one gives them papers.”
He told international media that in Ecuador he was dedicated to fishing, he fled due to violence, but he has not been able to regularize his immigration status upon arriving in Mexican territory.
A National Guard officer pointed out that they are there to avoid any confrontation: “I am not committing to anything, because it is not my responsibility, but rather immigration’s responsibility and to see how to serve them,” he added.
This group of foreigners caused dozens of heavy-duty trucks, public transportation and individuals to become stranded on the country’s southern border.
