Wikileaks Revealed Names of Diplomats and Thousands of Cables

Posted On 30 Aug 2011
The New York Times informed that Wikileaks published on its website new diplomatic cables that include names of people whose identities were protected by U.S. diplomacy, besides the 134,000 diplomatic cables published in recent days. The State Department and human rights advocacy groups fear that the disclosure of sources will put these people at risk, activists, journalists, and academics could become victims of reprisals such as losing their jobs, persecution or even violent actions. Among the sources that have been uncovered is a United Nations official in West Africa and human rights activist who works in Cambodia, reports El Pais.

The organization founded by Australian Julian Assange issued a statement saying it responds to the “Wikileaks commitment to maximize the impact and make information accessible for everyone.”
