Posted On 31 Aug 2011
The U.S. president, Barack Obama declared Wednesday the situation of “major disaster” in North Carolina and New York after Hurricane Irene over the weekend.
This will enable federal funds to ease recovery efforts in those two states that suffered most of the damages.
Irene, which vanished in Canada on Tuesday, caused massive flooding in three eastern states of the United States and power outages. Also, according to official reports, at least 43 people died.
