President Rafael Correa, will impose a tax to inheritances over the $35,400 and will combat the illegitimate “appreciation”, as part of a plan to combat inequality. Announced during annual report to the nation.

“I will face the political cost whatever it takes, but in the coming days i will also send to the National Assembly a new tax system to inheritances that exceed the one hundred unified base salary”, amounting to $35,400, Correa said to the Parliament.
Correa consider that “inherited heritage” is a “fundamental inequity factor” and stressed that this measure does not affect the poor, those who he described as a priority in his Government. (I)
