World Leaders Prepare to Discuss the Future of Syria
This Friday the UN–Arab League envoy, Kofi Annan, expressed his optimism regarding the last discussion about the crisis in Syria. Annan stated that the new discussions will have “an appropriate result” despite the failed plan and the increase violence in Syria.
Annan will attend an emergency meeting in Switzerland to meet with five diplomats of countries that are permanent members of the UN Security Council.
Meanwhile the United States state secretary Hillary Clinton, will meet with the Russian foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, in Saint Petersburg to solve the differences between both countries regarding the Syrian crisis.
US officials support a political transition plan in Syria, but Russia opposes to any foreign intervention. On the other hand the National Security Council of the UN informed that there will not be “any dialogue nor collaboration” with the regime of the Syrian president Bashar al-Assad, after the failure of Annan’s peace plan.
