Posted On 05 Oct 2011

Colombian singer Shakira and Brazilian actress Xuxa joined through the charitable foundations that they command, to help children under six years of Brazil’s poorest communities.

The two artists and Brazilian government officials in Rio de Janeiro signed a cooperation program that in its first four years aims to facilitate “access” and provide “better education” to children in 100 schools in Brazil.

The program was proposed in March during the visit that the Colombian singer made to the Brazilian President, Dilma Rousseff, and includes action plans aimed at increasing coverage of quality in education, health and nutrition in Brazil.

Alas Foundation, headed by Shakira, works to promote Early Childhood Development as the best investment for Latin America, while Xuxa Meneghel Foundation, run by the Brazilian singer of children’s music, acts as a network seeking the respect for the Convention on the rights of the Child.
