Youth unemployment is a reason for ONU meeting
The Economic and Social Council of the ONU (ECOSOC) gathered yesterday and today representatives of more than a thousand youth organization at the seat of the United Nations fot the Youth Forum. The discussion topic was unemployment among young people.
According to the ONU, in the years of implementation of this agenda, more than 600 million jobs shall be created to absorb the current number of unemployed and give employment to those who enter the labor market.
Martin Sajdik, ECOSOC President, told reporters that youth unemployment is a global problem and recalled that several countries in the European Union suffer very high levels of youth unemployment.
“The youth is facing unique challenges to ensure quality education, basic sanitation and decent work,” said Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in the opening speech of the Forum.
