Zamora Miners Require Organization from Government

Posted On 20 Sep 2010

Salvador Quishpe, Zamora Chinchipe, said the mining sector has been demanding a census for a long time because a big part of this sector hasn’t been considered.

Therefore authorities request that the Government specify who is to be legalized. Quishpe blamed the Ministry for incidents in their province due to the lack of regulation. He noted that the census is considered in our Constitution giving it a transitional period of 180 days.

He said the government has allowed the multinational like company Kinross work in their activities despite the environmental damage it’s not sanctioned. According Qhispe the Ministry of Environment permits the extraction new areas, he said.

The prefect announced his decision to become part of a mediation committee after a big meeting among 400 and 500 people. They hope to resolve the conflict through mutual consensus.

Some members will ask the Government the return of the seized machines, to suspend the arrests in Congüime, and the immediate release of two people detained during the conflicts with the Paquisha miners.
