Posted On 22 Jun 2011
One hundred and thirteen stores selling DVDs and CDs were closed yesterday by the Ecuadorian Internal Revenue Service (SRI) during a nationwide crackdown on sales receipts issuance in 168 shops visited.
In Guayaquil, the inspections were conducted in 24 stores; half of them were closed. In Quito and Cuenca, 34 and 30 establishments were closed respectively.
According to representatives of the SRI, the closure will last up to 10 days depending on whether or not the stores are repeat offenders. The type of raid was a simulated purchase, that was how the SRI found that the stores were not providing proof of payment. (FO)
