17S protesters will be judged by “attack or resistance”
The 52 adults who had allegedly participated in violent manifestations around the Montúfar and Mejia high schools, as well as in the Historical Centre, will be tried for the crime of “attack or resistance,” defined in article 283 of the new Integral Criminal Code (COIP for its Spanish acronym).
“The person who attacks or resists wit”atth violence or threats to public employees, depositaries or agents of the public forces, to the commissioners for the collection of taxes and contributions, to the executors of judgments, to the guards of customs and revenue offices and to the police officers, when they work in the execution of laws, or bythe orders or regulations of the public authority, will be sanctioned with custodial sentence of six months to two years,” says Article 283.
The incidents occurred during protests convened this past Wednesday, 17 September (17S on Twitter social network), by trade unions and the ruling party.
