Julio Cesar Campozano and Roberto Quiroz achieved the first silver medal for Ecuador in the 2011 Panamerican Games after losing against the Colombian Robert Farah and Juan Sebastian Cabral, with a score of 6-9, 6-4,after a three-hour match in the Telcel tennis complex.

With this last game, Campozano, known as the “Man of Steel” by the Mexican press, concluded its tenth consecutive game this week (all lasting over 2 hours) in the Panamerican Games.

Quiroz said that this was a great experience that he will never forget, “because not everyone reaches this position. We must recognize the efforts of Julio, who has physical problems, but continued until the end.”

No matter the final score, Mexicans and many Ecuadorians who came to encourageEcuadorian tennis players, cheered Campozano who appreciated the gesture by giving the game ball into the stands.

“I am proud to have represented my country. We got up at seven o’clock, still dark, to train and we were the last ones to leave the complex,” said Campozano.
