21 Articles of the Ecuadorian Communication Bill were Approved
The Occasional Communications Commission approved 21 articles related with the regulation of contents in the Ecuadorian media. The thesis which had minor changes made by the proposals of the minority in the room, was approved in a heated session between the opposition parties and Alianza País (ruling party).
One of such modifications was the exclusion of the term “technological platform” to avoid any possible regulation of Internet. However the legislators informed that among other things the communication bill prohibits the use of discriminatory messages from the media.
The bill was approved topic by topic, this generated a rejection on behalf the opposition when they insisted that it should be done article by article. During the beginning of the session, a group of journalists dressed in black with a rag in their mouth as way to protest against the aggression to the press and the rejection of this bill. (AV)
