30-S: Palacio Presented a Report on the Rescue of President Correa

Posted On 29 Jul 2011

Former opinion editor of El Universo Newspaper, Emilio Palacio, released a report that members of the Armed Forces prepared for the rescue of President Rafael Correa, September 30 (30-S), 2010 in the National Police Hospital.

The document, which has 14 pages and date October 18, 2010, was sent on June 1, 2011 by Deputy Secretary of Defense, Anibal Luis Garzon, the secretary general of the presidential office, Jorge Oswaldo Troy.

Emilio Palacio, in his recent article posted in emails and social networks, ‘Mr. President, who ordered what you did not order?”, stresses that the report states that the president “told the Minister of National Defence (Javier Ponce) and the commanding officer of the Armed Forces (General Ernesto Gonzalez V.), begin rescue him. To achieve this purpose, they coordinate, both in person and by phone, with members of the president’s personal security. “

“In other words, according to this document, the president asked to rescue him. He did not order, but asked them to rescue him,” says Palacio regarding this paragraph.

The report also detailed military step on the recovery and the weaponry that was used to free Correa.

“Was it possible that the President, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, did not know about the military details of the operation?,” asks Palacios himself.
