A 5% lower of tariff surcharges would be part of their withdrawal
The World Trade Organization (WTO) indicated through a statement on its website, that in January Ecuador will lower safeguards of consumer goods from 45% to 40%.
The body says that in the last meetings of June 29 and 30 the country shared its plan to withdraw safeguards until June 2016. These surcharges are in effect since March of this year.
For his part, Minister of Foreign Trade Diego Aulestia, said yesterday in an interview at CRE radio that at a meeting with the WTO confirmed that the safeguards would not last more than fifteen months and a chronogram for their withdrawal will be done soon, little by little. The 5% low, he explained, is part of the planned chronogram.
