A Commission was Created for the Neonate Case
A high level commission composed by neonatologists’ medics and pediatricians was made to investigate the deaths of five babies in hospital Francisco de Ycaza Bustamante. The president of “Colegio de Medicos del Guayas,” (Guayas medical crew) Armando Salcedo, is leading the investigation of doctors, in this way they hope to gather enough information to begin with the legal process for the Guayas Attorney’s.
President Rafael Correa will return to the country to personally investigate this matter. In a report presented by the Health Ministry, it was determined that the cause of death of the babies was because they had a germ called Serratia marcescens. Washington Aleman Espinoza, an infectious disease doctor, explained that the germ lives in the digestive tract and urinary tract of humans, and it can multiply and turn aggressive if patients are in critical condition or if they abuse of antibiotics.
