EcuadorNews:
The livestock sector has lived lean times, are they getting better? The Government says yes. The Deputy Minister of Livestock of the Ministry of Agriculture Santiago Torres says that the sector has improved its production and growth times come near. The farmers of the highlands and the Amazon region welcome with good eyes the figures of the last quarter of last year, and the first quarter of 2017.
“We have been through tough years because of climate issues, however, production has grown, we currently produce 5.3 million liters per day. The necessary investments to promote a fairer commercialization for producers have been implemented and there are possibilities of growing in the domestic market,” he said.
The official acknowledged that nevertheless, the economic situation of the country has not allowed that growth to take off in an accelerated way. However, demand has also improved because milk has been promoted in school feeding programs, which is repowering the production of small and medium producers.
