The familyof the artistic director Joseph Wright, winner of an Oscar in 1942 for ‘My Gal Sal’ was sued by the Academy of Hollywood for auction the golden statuette through the auction house Briarbrook last month for a of value of $ 79,200.
All creditors to the trophy must sign a contract that stipulates that in case of sale thereof, the Academy reserves the right of first refusal to purchase it for a value of $ 10. “The Academy has never wanted that Oscar to be treated as a negotiable item,” says the lawsuit filed by the Academy in a court of Los Angeles.
